Pocket/ Ready To Go

the single itself (on 7" black plastic @ 45rpm):

The lead track from the single “Ready To Go” should strike a chord with those among us that realise mortality is a reality, but that eventuality should be more than just a formality. Musically it surfs the skirmish that is the primal pleasure of pure rock n’ roll, but with an introspection befitting of someone whose attitude (to life) does not come in the shape of a trilby hat from upper Brick Lane, drawing a pipeline twixt Eddie Cochran and…something else entirely.

In addition to the tracks featured on the 7” single release, the band have a fine collection of songs and instrumentals, which Bucks is proud to represent o/b/o The Orchestra Pit Collective’s publishing arm Vacilando ’68 Publishing Co., a sample of which may be heard by clicking the links below:

The Orchestra Pit Recording Co. Launch Night:

untitled image

Tuesday the 13th November sees the inaugural release from The Orchestra Pit Recording Co., an event which shall be marked with a special show at London’s Marquee club. Featuring live music by Pocket, Blurt’s Ted Milton and Icarus’ Sam Britton - performing together as Odes, and One More Grain - fresh from an XFM session for John Kennedy. All this will be complemented by disc spinning from the individual that is Mr. Terry Edwards, the Lost Robots team (Richard Sanderson, Clive Pearman & Mark Braby) and Johnny Drapes.

The Orchestra Pit Collective & their many functions:

The label itself is an extension of the established club of the same name - The Orchestra Pit, as conceived by the unharnessed gem that is Mark Braby, which along with its off-shoot club Scaledown and associated Resonance FM radio show Full Circle has provided a platform for musicians with a left-field destination in mind (it has played host to Polar Bear, Howe Gelb and Vic Godard amongst others).

the band "Pocket":

Pocket performed at the very first Orchestra Pit event in 2003, and have subsequently become firm favourites of The Orchestra Pit audience and organisation, even prompting president of The Orchestra Pit Recording Co. Mr. Bob Winestain to give up cigars for a day if they agreed to launch the label…..Pocket agreed, Bob hit the cognac, and the rest is history/a blur.

Originally formed by songwriter John Bisset - an integral part of the early eighties Manchester new wave scene, before relocating to become leader of L.E.G.O. (The London Electric Guitar Orchestra), and torch bearer for the London free-improv scene as host of Stoke Newington’s 2:13 Club; and Alex Ward - a past collaborator of both Derek Bailey and Steve Noble, as well as being a member of the Guillemots touring line-up.

They will be aided and indebted on the night to their relatively new rhythm section of James Dunn (drums) and Malcolm Bruce (bass).
