Fly Records' 40th Anniversary Reissue Series:THE MOVE’s 4-CD Box Set

Fly Records' 40th Anniversary Reissue Series:

THE MOVE’s 4-CD Box Set

logologo

FLY RECORDS, in conjunction with SALVO, announce the release their latest release in the 40th Anniversary Reissue Series.

Release scheduled for late October 2008

THE MOVE’s comprehensive career-spanning 4-CD Box Set is chock full of “…Roy (Wood)’s incredible melodies and hook-laden songs…” (Tony Visconti), and unassailable covers, boasting an incredible 2/3rds of previously unreleased content.

Amongst the many unreleased tracks are The Move’s recently discovered very first recordings, and a stereo mix of their raucous live performance recorded over two nights at the legendary Marquee Club in 1968, revealing after 40 years, a live document of The Move at their very peak in their preferred environment and crackling with their raw energy.

The story of The Move is a mad, bad and dangerous rock’n’roll tale of finely crafted Pop hits amidst and axe cases of thunder flashes and smoke bombs, sharp suits & destroyed stages.

Foremost music writer Mark Paytress has written the absorbing liner notes, nee ‘book’, which are replete with a host of unseen photos of the band, many by their ‘official’ photographer Robert Davidson, with memorabilia inclusions from The Move’s Archive.

The initial pressings will contain a poster and a set of postcards – one for each member of the ‘classic’ line-up.

Dedicated to the group lead vocalist Carl Wayne, who died of cancer in 2004 just as the band’s reissue project commenced, the box set is released to coincide with the 40th Anniversary of the release of the band’s first Number One single ‘Blackberry Way’ (UK No 1, 1968) . “There’s unfinished business,” said Carl Wayne, the band’s frontman, prime-mover and spokesman in 2003. “The Move is one of the greatest myths and cults of all time because it broke up before it did too much damage to itself.”

The Move are revealed here as a defining example of late ’60s pop era eclectics, and with this crowning treasure trove to celebrate one of the most under-rated ‘Hit’ Pop acts of the Sixties, their rightful repositioning into the pantheon of coveted Sixties bands that roll off music lovers tongues, is ensured.

JadyAdie - John & Alec Dankworth

John Dankworth – saxes & clarinet
Alec Dankworth – double bass

Qnote Records

Father and son, John and Alec Dankworth, have been playing duo tunes off and on in John’s Old Rectory Studios for the past four years.
Now you can hear them all on JadyAdie, a new CD on Qnote records.
Alec says his dad is definitely a frustrated bass player.
“He bought a bass guitar to learn to write for it and taught himself a mean blues line, which he proudly demonstrates whenever he gets the chance.”
No need for John to play this time around, though – he has Alec, one of the finest double bass players in Europe, to do that for him.
Although, according to Alec, dad is a pretty hard taskmaster.
“The tracks include standards, originals based on standards and new compositions, including a couple by John’s long-time friend Ken Gibson. Most have fiendishly difficult bass lines – thanks, Dad!”
The 11 tracks include Mood Indigo, the song father and son first took to duetting on and which became a favourite in concerts, Harlem Airshaft and Let’s Call The Whole Thing Off, in addition to the Dankworth and Gibson compositions.
And what does the title of the album mean? Well, say it out loud and listen to what springs to mind – initially, that is…

John Dankworth is one of the founding fathers of modern jazz in Britain. This year he is celebrating his 80th birthday and over 60 years as a performing musician. He has led bands big and small, written film music, conducted symphony orchestras and, of course, shared stages all over the world with his wife, Cleo Laine.
Alec Dankworth studied jazz at Berklee in the US and has played with everyone from Stephane Grappelli to Van Morrison. For three years he was a member of the Dave Brubeck Quartet. He leads his own Trio and Alec Dankworth’s Spanish Accents, as well as playing in his parents’ band.

Tracks:

  1. Harlem Airshaft
  2. Angel Glow
  3. Quiet Brew
  4. Zodiac
  5. Let’s Call The Whole Thing Off
  6. Bass Elergy
  7. Upbeat Downbeat
  8. Rainbow Room
  9. Double Stop
  10. Mood Indigo
