FILM SYNOPSIS
Produced by Martin Pope, Directed by Thaddeus O'Sullivan
The Heart Of Me is an impeccable study of passion and its repression, set behind the closed family doors of society London. In 1934, two attractive, but very different, sisters fall in love with the same man. Rickie (Paul Bettany) is successful and charming, a good catch for the confident, level headed, loving Madeleine (Olivia Williams). But a mutual attraction between him and the quixotic, bohemian Dinah (Helena Bonham Carter) is impossible to deny, and soon the two of them are caught up in a tempestuous and inevitably disruptive affair. This beautifully composed film, charts the complexities of their love over a period of ten or so years, and the longer term shifts in the relationship between the two sisters. The cast give superbly restrained performances, and it is precisely this control and elegance, so appropriate to the story, which makes the film all the more resonant. Our hearts ache for the characters, seemingly trapped by the very conventions which they uphold. Lucinda Coxon's script is based on the novel "The Echoing Grove," by Rosamond Lehman. Writing from the 1920s onward, Rosamond Lehmann established a reputation as a brilliant chronicler of the social mores of her English upper middle-class contemporaries, and in particular the stifling effects these could have on women's lives. Based on her novel, 'The Echoing Grove'.

MUSIC NOTES

Nicholas Hooper's score evokes the hopeless submission the principle characters face to their catastrophically tangled emotions. The moods of pathos desire longing betrayal and the brutal underlying rage within the love torn character of Rickie are skilfully woven by Nick, interspersed with notable songs from the period, ostensibly from the songbooks of Cole Porter and Hoagy Carmichael..
Additional tracks planned for inclusion in pre-production for the film did not all make the final cut, but have been included in the soundtrack release, with the exception of the 1934 Dorothy Carless and Billy Mayerl version of 'Heart And Soul'.

NICHOLAS HOOPER :COMPOSER FILM SCORE

Nick has over ten years experience producing scores, for over 200 films, including his recent 19th century romantic score for 'The Tichborne Claimant', and is particularly well known in the field of natural history films. He has handled scores for 'Naturewatch', 'Wildlife On One', 'Natural World', 'Wildlife Tales' and 'Survival', and winning the ECO Festival Music Award for his 'Mountains of the Snow Leopard' score. Nick's particular interest in other musical cultures, and his love of the orchestra, led to the special combination used in the BBC's 'Land of the Tiger' series, for which he received the Golden Panda Award for Music & Sound Design.
